sir.
GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG, 23rd. ilovember, 1911.
With reference to the instruction regarding
gratuities contained in Lord Crewe's Despatch No. 338 of the
3lat. December, 1909, and embodied in General Order 39(8) of
this Government, I have the honour to forward the enclosed copy
of a minute by the Director of Public Works dated the 16th.
instant and to recommend that, in view of the hard and excellent
work done by, kr. Carpenter and Hr. Xavier during Mr. Gale's
absence, they should each receive a gratuity of £60. The overtime
worked amounts to a little over 6 months (reckoning 26 working
days to the month) and the gratuity proposed £120 is therefore
at the rate of £20 per mensem. Er. Gale was, however, away for
10 months: therefore, reckoning on the basis of period of leave
instead of amount of overtime worked, the gratuity would be at the
rate of £6 per mensem to each officer.
I have the honour to be,
sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
Manyar
Governor,&c..
